French Chocolate Macarons
Probably the most well known French Dessert: Macaron! We love them and they're fun to make!
Ingredients:
1 cup of powdered sugar
1/2 cup of powdered almonds
3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
2 large egg whites (at room temperature)
Pinch of salt
5 tablespoons of granulated sugar
1/2 cup of heavy cream
4 ounces of chocolate
1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
Step 1:
Start by preheating your oven at 350 degree F. Also, prepare two baking sheets with parchment paper and a pastry bag with plain tip.
Step 2:
In a blender, mix the powdered sugar, the almond powder and cocoa powder. Use a strainer to make sure that there aren't any lumps. With a mixer, beat the egg white while adding the sugar until you obtain a firm consistency.
Step 3:
Now, mix the egg with the flour together by folding the mixture with a spatula. Once you obtain a homogenous mixture, put it in the pastry bag.
Folding: use the tip of the spatula and scrape down under the mixture and over the top and stir gently (watch the video to understand this method).
Step 4:
On the baking sheet, make 1 inch circles evenly spaced form each other. Gently tap the baking sheet on the counter to remove air bubble from the mixture. Let them rest for 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 5:
Bake your macaron for 10 to 15 minutes depending on your oven. While it's cooking, it's time to prepare the filling: heat the cream, pour it over the chocolate and stir with the butter, and let it cool down.
Step 6:
Time to assemble your macaron: add the filing in the center of macaron et voilà !
